Born in Finland in 1944, he obtained his M. Sc. (Helsinki Institute of Technology) in 1969.
Working for IBM in Finland from 1971- 2003, he was a Database performance specialist
in Europe since 1978. He has consulted and taught in 19 countries, speaking fluent Finnish,
English, Swedish and German.

Tapio developed DB2 performance courses
at the IBM Education Support Center (La Hulpe,
Belgium) from 1999 - 2002. He has written
several books and dozens of articles on database
performance. Tapio is co-author of a textbook on
relational database performance, published in 2003
in Finnish by Docendo press and a new English
edition published in 2005 by Wiley.
The English textbook is included in the TL120
course material.

Since March 1, 2003, Tapio is an independent
database performance consultant and instructor,
living in Slovenia and Helsinki, Finland. His website is:
